This is a current model hybrid from Halfords superb Carrera brand. What a great machine - it really is a fantastic all-rounder. In fact, if I really had to face that awful decision of 'you can only have ONE bike' this would probably be the one.
It's equipped with excellent quality brakes and gears, it's VERY light and comfortable, and I bought it to use as a 'year-round' bike so I could keep cycling through the winter. The pic on the left was borrowed from the Halfords website (I hope they don't mind - particularly as I'm singing its praises so highly!) but my particular model has had lightweight mudguards, saddle bag, and lights added so I can use it all year round in all weathers. These additions make it look a little bland, but in a way that only adds to its 'stealth' appeal.
Essentially this is a road race bike with flat bars to give a more 'commuter' style riding position. This is actually the lowest spec version of this bike - you can go up a level and add disc brakes and various other goodies to the mix if you want to.
These Carrera bikes have been victims of brand snobbery in the past as they are unique to Halfords. But the point is this : because these bikes are only distributed through Halfords it keeps distribution costs way down. The result: a beautifully built high quality machine using proven reliable components that's very hard to match at the price.
