Not sure exactly when this bike was manufactured, but it’s believed to be an early 1980s model, making it at least 25 years old. I’ve owned it about 4 years. A classic Ebay find, it came as a box of bits but after an evening of spannerwork it was back together. Some very minor restoration later and it was ready to compete in the 2007 London Triathlon – probably the oldest bike there.
The things I love about this bike: the colour scheme in 2-tone white and yellow still looks striking and really makes the bike stand out. The bike is also surprisingly light and handles superbly. The Reynolds 501 steel frame offers a degree of flex you just cannot find with an alloy frame and this makes quite a difference to general ride comfort.
I toyed with the idea of selling this bike when I bought the new Dawes but in the end I couldn’t bring myself to part with it as it offers quite a different riding experience to the newer machine. (If I'm honest with myself, I admit I actually prefer it - a lot - to the much newer bike...)
Every so often I review my bike collection - logically I really don't need this many bikes - and ask myself which ones I'd get rid of if pushed. This would probably have to be the first victim, reluctantly... So if you're interested in this one drop me a line and make an offer. I've seen these changing hands on Ebay for £170 - £200 recently.
