As much as I love my retro racing bikes, I do have a serious hankering for a modern carbon-framed road bike. Seriously expensive usually, so perhaps it's better to stick to something aluminium instead? I'm tempted by the Scott Speedster (around £600) which seems to have attracted some good reviews and a strong following. The Trek 1.2 also seems to be a favourite, at around the same price. But currently the bike I'm leaning towards is the Boardman Team Carbon - an all carbon bike for a touch under £1000... Excellent reviews, decent-quality hardware, and a serious amount of bike for the money. It's a machine that's pretty much redefined the sub-£1000 price bracket for road bikes.
The only downside is that this year's model comes in a boring and bland black colour scheme... although next year's model may have something more exciting to offer. Watch this space...
